Nestled like a warm, glittering diamond between Fort Lauderdale and Miami are some of South Florida's many hidden beachfront gems. One is the city of Sunny Isles Beach. Incorporated around 1990 the City has gone from rags to riches in less than 20 years, thanks to the vision of its founders. The early real estate market comprised mostly of small motels along the oceanfront with a few luxury condos and apartments west of Collins Ave.
A decision to break away from Miami-Dade County and become a separate city has opened doors to the growth of the luxury beachfront market. It has grabbed the attention of some of the developers from within the U.S and South America, and the transformation began.
Although the City of Sunny Isles Beach was not incorporated until 1997, its history begins in 1920 when Harvey Baker Graves purchased a 2.26 square-miles to develop as a tourist resort. He called it “Sunny Isles: the Venice of America,” though the area was called North Miami Beach until 1931.
Just about two miles of pristine white sand stretches along scenic Sunny Isles Beach. Families can spread out on the soft sand or snorkel, dive, jet ski and more on the crystal clear waters. Sunny Isles Beach is also home to Newport Fishing Pier, a fun place to drop a fishing line.
High-End developers such as Jules Trump, J. Milton & Associates, Dezer Development Group, Related, ISG, Chateau, Fortune International have been transforming the Sunny Isles Beach Real Estate Market. They have invested heavily in new construction condos and resort hotels since 1990. With the city of Sunny Isles being able to control its future and the lift on the height restriction by FAA, the gamble has been paying off and the future is looking very good.
